Hidden Spaces: Idyllwild, CA
Have you ever traveled to a new place and amongst your arrival, you have the sense that you’ve visited it before? A feeling that perhaps you came in a dream or a past life, only for it quickly dawn on you that you have never been there.
Tucked away in the San Jacinto Mountains is a place called Idyllwild. I found myself here and boy did I have no idea what I was in for. Formerly known as Strawberry Valley and home to a large influx of hippies in the late 60s, this small town has now transformed into a beautiful resort with eccentric small businesses and a generous amount of creative energy. It had an enticing spirit, one that filled the air with counterculture and mountainside living.
How I stumbled upon this gem was through a friend of mine who has visited before. He spoke very highly of it and I was far from disappointed. To my surprise it instantly felt like a home away from home. It was reminiscent of a place I spent not too long ago; my Grandfather’s lake. The lines drawn were parallel, and the distinct energy brought an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia.
Our time there was brief, but I sure did enjoy the solitude and bliss it brought. If you’re looking for a hidden getaway, Idyllwild is the place to be. I highly encourage you to spend some time here!
Here is a short montage I created from my trip there! Hope you enjoy.
